Global Forum for Food and Agriculture 2023

Global Forum for Food and Agriculture 2023

Location: CityCube Berlin, Berlin, Germany
Dates: January 18 – January 21, 2023

The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) is an annual international conference that addresses central issues of agricultural and food policies. Hosted by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the event draws 3,000 visitors from politics, industry, science, and civil society worldwide to discuss how to achieve a transformation of food systems.

GFFA 2023 Theme: Food Systems Transformation

The 2023 Global Forum for Food and Agriculture will focus on “Food Systems Transformation: A Worldwide Response to Multiple Crises.” The international community has set ambitious Sustainable Development Goals, such as ending global hunger. Despite this, the number of people affected by hunger is still on the rise. The climate crisis, extinction of species, and the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the ongoing war in Ukraine, have become driving forces of global food insecurity.

Promoting Collaboration with a Special Focus

Building upon the UN Food Systems Summit, the GFFA aims to promote continued discussion and collaboration with a special focus on four crucial questions:

  1. Creating Crisis-Proof Food Systems: How can we make our food systems more resilient and crisis-proof?
  2. Developing Climate-Friendly Food Systems: How can we create food systems that are environmentally friendly and sustainable?
  3. Preserving Biological Diversity: How can we preserve biodiversity and support the ecological health of our food systems?
  4. Improving Collaboration for Sustainable Global Food Systems: How can we foster collaboration to create sustainable global food systems?

Informal Conference of Agriculture Ministers

The largest informal Conference of Agriculture Ministers in the world will take place on the final day of the event, with 70 agriculture ministers from around the world coming together to adopt a joint political communiqué. High-level representatives from more than ten international organizations, including the World Bank, FAO, OECD, and WTO, will also attend.

The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture is a critical platform that brings together international leaders to discuss and collaborate on ways to achieve a transformation of food systems. With a focus on the four key questions, the 2023 event promises to provide insights into how we can create resilient, sustainable, and crisis-proof food systems. The Informal Conference of Agriculture Ministers is a unique opportunity for key players to come together to adopt a joint political communiqué and develop solutions for global food insecurity.
